Easter is one of the highest attended church services of the year–and for good reason! This special day of celebration on the Church calendar is beloved by many for its spiritual and theological significance.
For many of us, it also stirs up special memories and reminds us of some great family traditions. It’s a time when the focus shifts from the busyness of ministry to the beauty of the empty tomb and family celebrations.
Subsplash is made up of people who love the Church just as much as those we serve!
To celebrate Easter, we asked the Subsplash team to share some favorite Easter memories or explain what Easter means to them.
Whether it’s an early sunrise service, the smell of Easter lilies, or that one specific breakfast your family always makes, these moments connect us to something much bigger than ourselves—to the Church family we belong to, and to the love of Christ.
We hope these stories from our team encourage you and remind you of the joy and hope we all share in Resurrection Sunday!

“To me, Easter means life in Christ. I’m thankful to have intentional days on the calendar to remember that all we have in life is because of Jesus.” —Carlos, Ministry Consultant
“My favorite part about the Easter season is the reminder of the cost that was paid to restore our relationship with God.” —Matt, Site Reliability Engineering III
“Easter to me is one of the cornerstones of our faith. It’s the difference maker on why we can say our savior lives and is such a faith builder to know that Jesus is the son of God and defeated death and all sin.” —Kurt, Director of Platform Adoption
“Easter is the core celebration for followers of Jesus. The proclamation that Jesus rose from the grave, conquered death, and is who he said he was. The reason we celebrate is to honor Jesus Christ as Lord and his tremendous sacrifice, but also, we celebrate his resurrection and ascension as the King.” —Chris, Chief Revenue Officer
“I love all the bright colors, the fresh blooms around us in nature, and the beautiful reminder of the hope that new life brings! We have an undeniable hope that is stirred as we reflect on His death and resurrection. Easter is the most beautiful reminder that joy and sorrow can sit side by side, and that even in our darkest moments, victory is coming. Because in the end, we are victorious through Him!” —Halle, Client Operations Specialist
“I love being able to spend intentional time with each part of Holy Week. I try to imagine what it must have felt like to see Jesus enter Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, to hear his preaching and see his miracles that would cause such an uproar as to cause his arrest. Good Friday service is my favorite part of the week because it's so different from every other service we do at our churches. We focus on the hope that is lost on that day. I think allowing yourself to empathize with Jesus' disciples on Friday makes Resurrection Sunday all the more glorious and exciting.” —Jackson, Client Success Manager
“The Easter season is a reminder of the sacrifices Jesus made for us and the ways we can live sacrificially in return. It’s a time of reflection and hope as the sun comes out, flowers bloom, and God's faithfulness is prevalent as we revel in the blessing that is the good news.” —Becca, Senior Giving Specialist

“When I was little, we made special ‘Easter Cookies’ that walked us through the story of Jesus in such a memorable way! We started by crushing pecans in a bag, symbolizing how Jesus was beaten after His arrest. We smelled vinegar and poured it into a bowl, remembering how He was offered vinegar to drink on the cross. We added egg whites to represent life, reflecting on how He gave up His own life so we could have new life. We tasted salt for the tears of those who loved him and the bitterness of our sin. Finally, we added sugar to remind us that the sweetest part of the story is His unfailing love for us. On Easter morning, we would run to open the oven and find the cookies cracked and hollow inside. The tomb was empty! I remember as a kid how that simple illustration made the story feel so real and full of hope. He has risen!” —Halle, Client Operations Specialist
“I like learning about the creative ways people incorporate the Easter message—the symbolism of hot cross buns, Lenten soup suppers, resurrection eggs for kids, etc. It’s so special.” —Olivia, Content Marketing Manager
“We had a yearly Easter egg hunt at my home church growing up, and I always loved competing with my sisters to see who could get the most eggs. Now, if I am fortunate enough to be around my nieces and nephews on Easter, I get so much joy from watching them compete with each other as they hunt for eggs.” —Becca, Senior Giving Specialist
“One of my favorite Easter traditions is opening a bottle of champagne with my husband after church and celebrating the resurrection. When we were first married, our priest gave a sermon about the resurrection and popped a bottle of champagne in the sanctuary, sending the cork flying to the back of the room and spilling out all over the floor. It was such a crazy, over-the-top reminder that the day to be most celebrated all year is Easter. The reality of the resurrection and the redemptive, life-giving gift of Jesus should be celebrated more than any other day. The news is that good!” —Teresa, Product Manager
“One year, my grandma gave each of my siblings and me a riddle. We would have to solve that riddle and follow its clues to eventually find baskets full of toys and candy. Today, our Easter traditions include family photos! We always take a family picture after church on Easter Sunday. All our other church friends are doing the same with their families. The whole courtyard turns into a photo zone, it's great!” —Jackson, Client Success Manager

“My son was born at 3:16 in the morning on Easter Sunday. I will never forget the joy of that moment, but also, John 3:16 is a core verse that says God loved the world and gave his only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish. What an amazing memory to have a birth on Easter Sunday at exactly 3:16.” —Chris, Chief Revenue Officer
“Favorite Easter memories will always include the years my wife and I spent as pastors in Jerusalem. Our church partnered with the Garden Tomb to provide worship for a few Resurrection Sunday services. We were there on the steps looking straight into an empty tomb as we sang worship songs and saw the sunrise come up in Jerusalem.” —Kurt, Director of Platform Adoption
“One year, my grandpa hid the Easter eggs a little too well. We still talk about it decades later!” —Olivia, Content Marketing Manager
“My mom got my sister and me bunnies one year. Dad wasn’t too happy about it, and we both got bitten that morning and wanted nothing to do with the rabbits after that.” —Matt, Site Reliability Engineering III
“When I was a kid, my parents would hide candy in the house for my sisters and me. They would hide individual pieces of candy and try to camouflage them as best as possible to make it challenging! Sometimes we wouldn't find jelly beans until months later. It was always so much fun.” —Teresa, Product Manager
“I’ll never forget the first time I found the golden egg, which had $20 in it! I was so excited. I was also a full-grown adult, which makes me laugh at how competitive I was.” —Arthur, Senior Director of Client Services
“One of my favorite Easter memories is celebrating with a sunrise service. My husband and I got up super early and arrived at church in the dark. As the service was held outside, we were all worshiping at dawn as we watched the sun just starting to rise. It was, of course, reminiscent of the time in Scripture when Mary and Martha arrived ‘Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark’. And as the sun began to rise, it’s a beautiful reminder of the great Light that has come to expel the darkness from this world. What an amazing experience!” —Lyndsi, Marketing Copywriter
