July 18, 2025

Changing leaves. The start of a new school year. Comforting soups, sweaters, and delicious cups of coffee. The autumn season is a time for transitions, bringing with it unique joys that remind us of God’s goodness amidst seasons of change.

As we turn to Scripture during this spectacular season of transformation, we are encouraged by reading God’s Word. Bible verses for the fall season remind us of God’s faithfulness in every season. Just as God is aware of the changing seasons in nature, so He is aware of the unique changes in our own lives.

15 fall Bible verses to celebrate the season

Genesis 8:22

“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

Joel 2:23

Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.

Proverbs 3:9-10

Honor the Lord with your wealth,

with the firstfruits of all your crops;

then your barns will be filled to overflowing,

and your vats will brim over with new wine.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Jeremiah 17:8

“They will be like a tree planted by the water

that sends out its roots by the stream.

It does not fear when heat comes;

its leaves are always green.

It has no worries in a year of drought

and never fails to bear fruit.”

Psalm 1:1-3

Blessed is the one

who does not walk in step with the wicked

or stand in the way that sinners take

or sit in the company of mockers,

but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,

and who meditates on his law day and night.

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither—

whatever they do prospers.

Deuteronomy 11:13-15

“So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul—then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil. I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

Isaiah 40:6-8

A voice says, “Cry out.”

And I said, “What shall I cry?”

“All people are like grass,

and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.

The grass withers and the flowers fall,

because the breath of the Lord blows on them.

Surely the people are grass.

The grass withers and the flowers fall,

but the word of our God endures forever.”

Daniel 2:20-21

He deposes kings and raises up others.

He gives wisdom to the wise

and knowledge to the discerning.

He made the moon to mark the seasons,

and the sun knows when to go down.

“Let us fear the Lord our God,

who gives autumn and spring rains in season,

who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.”

Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.

they make it a place of springs;

the autumn rains also cover it with pools.

James 5:7-8

Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.

Autumn Bible verses encourage deeper faith

In Surprised by Joy, C.S. Lewis once described the “Idea of Autumn”, writing, “It sounds fantastic to say that one can be enamored of a season, but that is something like what happened; and, as before, the experience was one of intense desire.”

Like Lewis, many of us are enamored with the fall season–and Bible verses about autumn stir something deep within us: a longing for beauty, for renewal, and for the quiet presence of God. At the end of summer, we’re excited to return to our routines and rhythms, starting each day with a hot cup of coffee and encouraging words found in Scripture. We’re excited to recommit to church, to school, to new activities and friends.

These fall Bible verses encourage us to meditate on God’s Word. We take time to be still, to seek after God, to enjoy the good things in life, and to open our hearts to God no matter what season we’re in. The changes in autumn remind us that as we continue to experience changes in life, we continue to trust in God’s faithfulness.
