Reigniting Church Engagement in a Distracted World: A conversation with Dr. Manny Arango

September 2, 2025

A typical church service lasts between one to two hours. That leaves 166 other hours in the week where distractions creep in, decisions fade, and discipleship can stall. In today’s world—where the average American spends 7 hours a day on screens—it’s clear that Sunday alone isn’t enough to sustain meaningful spiritual growth.

That’s why Subsplash has partnered with Dr. Manny Arango, pastor, podcaster, author, and founder of The Bible Department and ARMA, for a recent webinar: Reigniting Church Engagement in a Distracted World.

Join the conversation as we discuss how ministries that aren’t present in digital moments risk being invisible when people need hope most. You’ll receive a fresh vision and practical strategies for moving beyond a Sunday-only approach to ministry to connecting with your people every day of the week.

3 key takeaways from the webinar

1. Digital discipleship is real

In our conversation, Dr. Manny confronted an all-too-common hesitation:

“I think I've heard a lot of times in church where people essentially try to make this argument that digital relationships are not real relationships; that digital engagement is not real. Sometimes we don't realize the implications of what we're saying.”

He drove the point home by flipping the script:

“If online dating is real and they have real consequences and real negative ramifications, then that means that digital discipleship is real. That means online church is real and that means that these things have positive ramifications and positive consequences. The digital world is real and we are going [use that] to reach the world and to reach people where they are.”

What people need to realize is that digital encounters hold weight. They shape people. They can move hearts just like any "in-person" interaction, but they're happening where people spend most of their free time every day—on screens.

2. Content forms character—and connection

Your sermon should be more than just a Sunday snapshot. Shared digitally, it’s an invitation—into reflection, into conversation, into growth. As Dr. Manny reminded participants, content isn't just information; it's formation.

In today’s distracted world, people don’t need more noise. Instead of more digital noise, people need encounters that stir the heart, renew the mind, and anchor them to truth. A single well-crafted and Gospel-centered message has the power to cut through endless scrolling and speak directly to someone’s need, drawing them into the message.

When people encounter content at the right moment, it shapes, sustains, and spurs discipleship.

3. Make digital your everyday strategy

Tactics matter. Without a plan, digital outreach becomes sporadic and weakens impact. The challenge is that most church leaders don’t have time to create daily content to share with their community.

Fortunately, Subsplash offers the tools that make weekly digital rhythms possible. For example, with Pulpit AI, you can transform your sermon videos into over 20 pieces of content. These include video shorts and reels with captions, daily devotionals, small group study guides, sermon notes, and much more!

Subsplash also offers the best unified digital platform for sharing your content, such as:

  • Branded mobile, TV, and car apps
  • Easy to build church websites
  • HD media hosting and sermon players
  • Live-streaming
  • Secure messaging and small-group support

The goal of creating content is consistency. Establishing a regular rhythm cuts through the noise and creates discipleship that flows throughout the week—not just a sermon and a Sunday.

Quick wins that your church can do now

In the webinar, Dr. Manny and Subsplash present several practical and actionable steps leaders can take to start reigniting church engagement and discipleship.

  • Commit to consistent content. One short devotional, reflection, or Bible prompt per day builds rhythm—and invites spiritual formation.
  • Own your channels. Prioritize your website, app, email, and text—so your message doesn’t get lost in algorithm chaos.
  • Embrace digital relationship-building. Ask questions. Invite responses. Spark conversations—not just broadcasts.
  • Choose tools that scale. Platforms like Subsplash give you everything you need to build, track, and sustain digital momentum.
