Top 5 free resources for men’s Bible studies (with audio, video, and curriculum)

January 26, 2024

“Let the study of the Bible become central in your life—not just so you will know it, but that you will obey it.”
— Billy Graham

Across the United States, people are becoming less familiar with what the Bible teaches. About 11% of U.S. adults claim to read their Bibles every day, but on the other hand, 29% say they never read the Bible. Likewise, most studies on the subject show that women are more actively engaged in faith practices than men.

It is important for men who claim to be Christians to actually engage the object of their faith, God, in his primary form of revelation, the Bible. It is through engaging the Bible that Christians will best come to know and love God, and men often need more prodding toward Bible study than women do.

But you may be wondering as a church leader, “Where can I find good resources that will help me lead men to better study the Bible?” or “What are some good men’s Bible study topics?” and other such questions. While you can likely do some searching on the internet for men’s Bible studies available for purchase, you may have a more difficult time finding trustworthy, free resources that you could use to begin ministering to men’s groups today. Below are a handful of great free resources to use for a men’s Bible study.

Top 5 free resources for a men’s Bible study

1. MANUP

MANUP is a free Bible study curriculum for men that has been continuously developed for over a decade. MANUP offers men’s Bible studies with free study materials, video lessons, and more. The curriculum available ranges in length from 4 to 12 lessons, making it easily adaptable for any kind of ministry environment.

They also have a MANUP app—built on the Subsplash Platform! This is a great place to start if you need some curriculum for a men’s ministry and you don’t know where to look.

2. Men’s Group Foundation

Marsh Bull founded Men’s Group Foundation in 2012 after a couple of decades of intense hardship, grief, and loss. He knows how difficult it can be for men to get into spiritual matters, especially studying the Bible, and he has endeavored to provide resources for just that purpose. Men’s Group Foundation offers “studies inspiring purpose,” and this curriculum includes discussion topics, downloadable men’s Bible studies, and study guides for church leaders.

3. Desiring God

Desiring God is arguably the foremost library of free Christian resources on the internet. The site was designed at its foundation to be usable like a library, with a vast tagging and categorization system that makes resources easy to search and find. So, naturally, they have loads of free resources for men’s Bible study and men’s small groups

To be clear, this resource is a bit different from the others on the list as Desiring God is not providing a formalized curriculum. Rather, you would want to use Desiring God as a resource hub from which you could pull resources to build your own discussion or study plans.

4. Man in the Mirror Bible Study

Sometimes it can be difficult for men to build healthy, life-giving relationships with other men that support positive life change and kingdom-mindedness. Man in the Mirror was founded in 1986 by Pat Morley with a vision to “equip Christian men around the world to engage in meaningful relationships that change lives and build the kingdom of God.”

They offer Bible studies for men covering a wide range of topics dating back to 2013. These free Bible studies include videos and in some cases handouts and transcripts as well.

5. Promise Keepers

Promise Keepers was founded with a mission to “help men focus on life purpose, destiny, character, integrity and manhood, based on Christian values.” Their website offers instructions for men’s group facilitators along with free printable men's Bible study lessons that anyone can use. While the Promise Keepers movement peaked in the 1990s with their massive conferences for men, their resources are still available and valuable for men’s Bible study today.

Getting started is half the battle

If you are looking to start a men’s small group or men’s Bible study ministry in your church, you may be a bit overwhelmed. And that’s understandable. But you don’t have to be. Any of the resources above (plus others, to be sure) can help you get men’s groups started in your local ministry context. And getting started is half the battle. Once you get some momentum, you can trust that men will show up to encourage each other and be encouraged themselves.
