We’re thrilled to share with you our history of church tech innovation. As you’ll see below, Subsplash has been the “first” in many areas, pioneering new paths for churches to engage with visitors and members and reach more people for the Gospel.
For two decades, Subsplash has gained recognition for creating some of the most downloaded apps of all time. Our work has been featured in Wired, Engadget, Gizmodo, and The Wall Street Journal. Along with being recognized for creating amazing technology for churches, Subsplash has also been awarded for providing our employees with a world-class work experience. Some of these awards include:

From humble beginnings in a garage to hundreds of employees across the country, we’ve seen God move in amazing ways. Subsplash continues to innovate to help the Church connect with people right where they are, while also encouraging them to come to the most important space—being in community with other believers and doing life together as the body of Christ.
2005 - Founded by Tim and Kristy Turner, Subsplash began as a design and software consulting company, creating enterprise software for world-class brands like XBOX, Microsoft, Samsung, Expedia, and Cisco.
2008 - Began developing apps for iPhone before the App Store was created.
2009 - Created the first-ever church app. Subsplash’s iPhone app received significant attention in the press and was downloaded over 10,000 times in its first week. Launching even before Netflix or Hulu developed iPhone apps, it featured a massive collection of video and audio streaming.
2010 - Launched and created the first Android and iPad church apps.
2010 - Introduced the Subsplash Media Player, allowing people to watch sermons directly through their church's app and website (instead of third-party platforms like YouTube and Facebook.)
2011 - Developed the Luminance app, which was nominated as Apple’s App of the Week with over 2 million downloads.
2015 - Developed the very first church apps for Apple TV which were live on day one of the Apple TV App Store launch.
2016 - Subsplash Giving is added, including GrowCurve, highlighting our commitment to help churches and ministries keep more resources for what matters most—sharing the good news of Jesus.
2017 - Announced The Church App, an app helping churches and ministries expand their reach and be more discoverable than ever before.
2018 - SnapPages, One-Click Publishing and Websites, are introduced to the Subsplash Platform, allowing churches to share content across apps, websites, and podcasts with just one click.
2018 - Developed the first Roku TV church apps, allowing people to watch their church’s sermons and other videos on their TVs at home.
2018–2020 - Opened offices in Wenatchee, WA; Austin, TX; and Cincinnati, OH. Since 2020, we’ve become a fully remote company!
2019 - Introduced Donor-Covered Fees. This gives your donors the option to cover processing fees, allowing you to keep more of your donations for what matters most.
2019 - Added Subsplash Messaging, a more authentic way to connect, engage, and build community.
2019 - Launched Equip & Engage, a podcast that explores how technology serves the mission of the church to make more and better disciples.
2020 - Introduced Subsplash Live during the pandemic, taking the hard work out of live streaming so that you can engage your audience and expand your reach like never before.
2021–2022 - Subsplash One is announced as the connected platform for church management and engagement, now featuring People, Groups, Child Check-In, Volunteers, Service Planning, Events, and more.
2023 - Created the first CarPlay and Android Auto car apps for churches, and added Fire TV, Google TV, as well as Apple Pay & Google Pay!
2024 - Pulpit AI joins the Subsplash, an innovative AI platform that automatically transforms sermon videos into a suite of shareable content, saving pastors and their teams hours of work every week.
2025 - Introduced Subsplash Tap, a tap-to-engage solution for churches that makes giving and connecting as seamless as possible. Utilizing tap-to-give technology, users can give, sign up, or connect with just the tap of their phone.
Today, Subsplash serves over 20,000 churches and ministries with millions of users around the world! As we look back on the past two decades, we see humble beginnings, amazing milestones, and major church tech innovations. This milestone of twenty years offers a moment to reflect on God’s faithfulness and the mission that has guided us from day one.
Our core conviction is that the truth of Jesus through the life of the local church is the greatest source of hope and joy for the world. By staying rooted in the Gospel and responsive to the needs of the Church, we’ve been able to advance the mission of the Church in the digital age—together with you.
The best part of our story is that we’ve only just begun our journey to equip every church. We can’t wait to see what the future holds!
